Hartford Crime Down in 2010

Entering 2011 on a good note, violent crime rates in Hartford are down pretty big. Homocide rates were 25% lower than in 2009 and all serious crimes dropped an aggregate of 6%.  Combine this with the efforts by the Mayor’s office to fight urban blight in the city, The Hartford Insurance Company’s 6 million dollar investment in Asylum Hill and ESPN dropping stupid amounts of money on Adrien’s Landing and that’s pretty impressive considering the current economic crisis.

Now all the yuppie dipshits from the burbs can get over their irrational fear of Hartford…  maybe?

Hartford Blog Round-Up

Mayor Segarra took the time to talk with our friends over at Sad City Hartford, one of the HPSU’s favorite Hartford blogs. Go check out the interview here.  Props to sad city for getting this interview. I guess the HPSU is really going to have to step it up and interview Dan Malloy about his favorite dubstep tracks or something.

Also, someone just keyed me into Social Hartford, which right now is just a google calendar and a facebook page but  seems like a pretty cool source for stuff going on in Hartford, not to mentioned that Still Wavy is featured on the promotional youtube. Keep your eyes on this one.

Hartford is the 16th Drunkest City in the Nation

You’re welcome.

Hartford is the 16th drunkest city in America, judging by its average alcohol consumption, number of heavy drinkers and binge drinkers and the number of people who die from liver disease, according to an online report from The Daily Beast.

The average Hartford drinker consumes 13.23 drinks per month, 15.9 percent of adults are binge drinkers, 6.3 percent are heavy drinkers, and the city has 3.9 deaths from alcoholic liver disease for every 100,000 residents.

No. 1 on The Daily Beast list is Milwaukee followed by Fargo, N.D. and San Francisco.

Hartford ranked just after Toledo, Ohio and just before Tampa, Fla.

Burlington, Vt. was the highest ranking New England city (at No. 6) followed by Boston (No. 8), Providence, (13), Portland (18) and Springfield, (31).
